What is SEO and why is it important for marketing?

SEO or search engine optimization (optimization for search engines) is a marketing process of optimizing a website and its content focused on increasing visibility in organic search engine results through improvements on and around our pages. The goal of SEO optimization is to increase traffic from search engines to the website so as to improve positions on search results pages. That's the official answer to the question "what is SEO", but I know definitions don't help much. Read this small guide through SEO and find out the answer to that and other related questions.

SEO is not something you create and pay for like Google ads and see it immediately tomorrow. That's why companies often "don't believe in SEO". SEO is not a religion that you should believe in, but it is certainly something that is less tangible than ads. Although we most often mean Google by SEO optimization, it should not be forgotten that there are also other search engines where people search. Search engines have their own bots (robots, i.e. computer programs that execute commands independently, and often include elements of artificial intelligence) that search pages on the web, going from page to page, collecting information about these pages and putting them in the index.

The algorithms then analyze the pages that are indexed, taking into account hundreds of ranking factors and signals, to determine the order in which the pages will appear in search results for a given query. In other words, when you type "how to fix a cistern", the algorithm determines what result it will show you. What you are presented with is not set in stone, the order of results may change tomorrow. You cannot pay search engines to be the first result, i.e. to show you more on the SERP (page with search results), so that "Ad" is not written in front. Organic unpaid positions must be earned with quality, and users are looking for quality, not ads.

Types of SEO optimization we do:

On-page SEO: Title tags, H1-H6 tags, images

Technical SEO: Enable the web to be crawlable (robots.txt file, sitemap, search console)

Off-page SEO: Link building and promotion

Content SEO: It's all about keywords and content production

YouTube SEO: How to get people to find you through video content on YouTube

Local SEO: User experience, mobile-ready

eCommerce SEO: Category optimization, product page, special category is Amazon SEO

If you reduce thinking about SEO optimization to the level of these categories, it will be easier to create and implement your optimization plan. Investing in SEO is very profitable, but most companies still do not see beyond a Facebook page, a boost post or a Google ad when it comes to digital marketing. How to convince the responsible person in the company to give SEO marketing a chance?

Why is it so hard to convince people to invest in SEO? Because SEO is "invisible"

Fear and misunderstanding are the most common reasons why someone does not want to decide to invest in something. I'm not just talking about SEO, it's the same thing when you start explaining bitcoin, stocks, investments in general that are "somewhere invisible." It's easy to invest in building real estate. You build it and see it, it is at that address, you can sell it on. But why on earth invest in SEO? If you are employed in a company in a position that is responsible for online traffic, marketing and sales, as a digital expert you have heard about SEO and started researching that area, and now you would like to either learn more on your own or hire an external collaborator/agency to optimize for you web from the technical and content side with the aim of increasing unpaid traffic and increasing conversions. But you have a boss above you who needs to be convinced that SEO is a good thing. Who is your boss? Address them so that they understand the benefit Before you approach your boss with a request to invest in SEO, think about the tactics of your approach. Is the boss person more focused on technical parts or is he a communicator, does he speak the language of money and sales or is he more of a "non-believer" in new tools?

If the boss prefers technical details, explain to him Google's algorithm and everything that affects positioning from the technical side (we learn about technical requirements in the SEO writing for the web education, among other things!) and give him a few statistics about the importance of a secure and fast website, mobile responsive but also a lot of good content. If the boss is a communicator, start with content marketing and communication and focus on getting permission to do SEO content marketing, that is, marketing through content that will be designed for search engines. Content SEO is part of on-page optimization and revolves around the content on the page and how to improve it. Given that content is one of the TOP relevant factors for good ranking, many consider it a separate type of SEO optimization. 10 facts why content marketing is good for business. If the boss is a person who believes in sales and numbers, put him to sleep with content marketing as well as conversion statistics via SEO vs. earn through ads.
